Larne III welcomed one of the league favourites in Belfast Harlequins for what promised to be an exciting and very much open game, and spectators weren't left disappointed. Larne started the game well with some good pressure resulting in a well struck penalty by M. Agnew, Quins then came on the attack but after J. McCluggage forced the turnover leaving M. Agnew to clear the lines where the Larne forwards chased well and forced another penalty that M. Agnew slotted home comfortably. Quins then forced a turnover from the restart and some good attacking pressure saw them score below the posts, the try was then converted, Larne forwards responded well however only being denied by some good defensive tackling by Quins pack, who forced the turnover and sent a long clearing kick which was well gather by G. Rennix, offloading to R. Bergin who then went on an ambitious run from inside his own 22, only to be denied by a good covering tackle by the Quins 12, Larne however used the ball quick and the forwards showed they can also play the champagne rugby by scoring a terrific try below the posts, S. Johnston getting the try with M . Agnew converting. This brought the first half to a close, with the Larne men going into the second half on a high the got complacent conceding two penalties that were well kicked, J McCluggage then took control with some hard hitting and great turnovers leading to J. Houston scoring in the corner, with this to be the last points of the game Larne won 18-13. MOTM going to J. McCluggage. Larne team – Forwards – J. McCluggage, B. Meikle, S. Johnston, M. Crampsey, M.
