Half Time Mini Rugby 25.10.13

Ulster v Cardiff Blues

Twelve lucky P7 children recently got the opportunity to follow in their heroes’ footsteps and play on the hallowed turf of Ravenhill during half time rugby when Ulster played the Cardiff Blues.

The boys met at the club at 5pm eagerly looking forward to the night ahead. Davy Wilson kindly allowed the team to use the club minibus which only added to the occasion. On arrival at Ravenhill the boys were shown to their seats and settled in to watch the first half of the match. Ulster dominated and the boys enjoyed watching two Ulster tries before halftime.

Excitement built as the boys were summoned from their seats to get ready for their big moment. They were playing Bangor and knew they would be in for a tough game. As they took the field the roar from the crowd encouraged the boys to give their best effort.

Although Bangor scored first Larne dominated the remainder of the game and equalised with a fine solo try from Luke Burns. The game finished a draw and the Larne boys were very happy with the result. All the boys played extremely well and can be proud of their efforts on the pitch.
They enjoyed having their photo taken with Sparky the mascot then returned to their seats to watch the second half. Although Ulster took their time they eventually ran out comfortable winners making it a perfect end to the evening.

The boys headed back to the bus and onwards to the club, singing their hearts out all the way home.

This was a great night for the boys and they all enjoyed the experience greatly. Special thanks to Joy Sparkes at the Ulster Branch, and Davy Wilson, for their help organising the night.
