Last Gasp Win for Larne 3rds
By Stephen Johnston
Larne 3rds traveled to Coleraine following their recent victory and looking to get another one on the trot.
In cold and wet conditions Larne started off the better of the two teams with blistering runs from Jonny McKinty and Peter Reid.
Larne soon got into the 22 and with great footballing skills from Colin McKinty, Larne's Peter Reid got over the line, conversation missed.
Coleraine responded with a penalty with a rare appearance in the Larne half, but with Larne’s brilliant defence and big runs from Aaron Carter in open play and Bobby Warwick, they failed to convert a higher lead following into the break.
In the 2nd half Larne once again started the better team and got on the score sheet when the ball was given to Aaron Carter who stormed over the Coleraine try line after great passing in the lead up. Windy conditions making any kicks hard to convert the extra points.
Coleraine bounces back to get their first try, when their scrum half gathered his own chip and went under the posts for his teams first try. No conversion.
In a match where penalties were becoming a part of a regular occurrence for both teams, Coleraine thought they had won it with a penalty 4 minutes from time and slotted the 3 points, but it was Larne who won the returning kick off straight away to hit back into the Coleraines 5 metre line. The referee blew for a penalty for Larne and with the last kick of the match, Matthew Calwell took the penalty to broke the hearts of Coleraine giving Larne a massive win away from home!
Final Score: Coleraine 11 - 13 Larne 3rds
Larne’s Man of the match: Matthew Calwell.
A huge welcome back to Craig Gibson starting his first game back in over 19 months.
