Larne men off to a flyer in Conference League
By Stephen Johnston
On Saturday 25th August, Larne entertained Malone 2nd XV at the Glynn in the conference League.
Larne had to make 2 last minute changes due to injuries in the warm up and also welcomed back Jordan Burns from long term injury. The Malone sides also had to deal with a number of changes from their normal starting line up.
With Larne dominating in the forward pack from set piece they where soon rewarded with a try from Ryan McAlister quickly followed by Ryan Garrett getting onto the score sheet with a short snipe to the line. B McFall then went 60m for his first try of the season. These quick tries in succession seem to kick Malone into life and Larne had to withstand a strong Malone pack, a try saving tackle from J.Cole holding Malone up over the line only delayed Malone getting their first try of the game.
Strong ball carrying from J. Mckinty and E. Hunter lead to another 2 tries from from J. Burns and again R. McAlister. Good phase play from Larne’s backline and set piece lead to another 2 tries from R. Garrett and B. McFall.
J.Mckinty completed the scoring with a try from short range
Philip Andrews kicking converted all opportunities today with 100% record from the tee finishing the game at 49-5 win to the Larne side.
Larne travel to Banbridge 2 XV next weekend for the next game in the conference League.
