ill disciplined Larne, lose out to Academy
On Saturday 21st January Larne took on academy at Roughfort.
Larne started the game well and early pressure resulted in out half Aaron Mcbride slotting 2 penalties to give the away side a 6-0 lead.
This lead was short lived as Academy answered with 2 penalties of their own leaving the game tied after 20 minutes.
Some poor defensive organisation from Larne allowed academy to run in two tries leaving Larne trailing by 14. With not long of the first half left some much needed possession allowed the impressive Rhys Thomas to barge over leaving the half time score 23-13.
Larne knew they needed to start the second half strongly and after some strong carries from Johnston and Thomas. The ball was chipped through allowing Larne winger Jordan Burns to collect and touch down in the corner. The conversion was missed leaving the score at 23-18.
Academy continued to apply pressure on the larne defence and some good handling resulted in the academy centre touching down in the corner. The conversion was added.
With 20 minutes remaining Larne made their way upfield and some strong forward work resulted in Captain Eddie Hunter driving over for Larne's third try of the day. The conversion was missed leaving the score at 30-23.
Larne were unable to push on from this and some poor discipline resulted in another academy penalty. The final score remained 33-23.
Next Saturday sees Larne take on Limavady at home in the league, all support welcome.
