On Saturday 3rd September, Larne travelled to Grosvenor at their new home ground of Gibson Park, Belfast, for the first league fixture of the season.

The hosts were the first on the board with early pressure adding two penalties to give them a 6-0 lead. Larne then went on to add a penalty of their own to bring the score to 6-3.

After a very scrappy remainder of the first half the scores stayed the same at the half time whistle.

After a few stern words from coach Lawrence Kelly and Captain Eddie Hunter at half time, Larne came out like a new team in the second half.

Adding another penalty nearly straight away to level the scores at 6-6, they then collected the ball from kick off and worked their way up the pitch. After the forwards set the initial platform, Phillip Andrews sliced his way through the Grosvenor defence, to score under the posts and add the extras himself, bringing the score to 6-13.

Larne then conceded a penalty within kicking range half but Grosvenor missing their chance to come back with points. Larne then went straight up the pitch and got a penalty of their own, Phillip Andrews slotted it over for his 16th point of the game.

Grosvenor then had a player yellow carded for a late tackle which provided the space for Stuart Andrews to add points. The winger set off down the wing and touched down in the corner. Conversion missed and score line of 6-21 into the last 10 minutes.

There was still time for Jordan Burns to get his name on the score sheet and when the forwards set another good platform, Burns was fed the ball, chipped the ball through and collected his own kick to score under the posts. P Andrews duly slotting over the extra points for the final score of 6-28.

A very entertaining game and good momentum for the Larne men to work from for the season ahead. Larne Man Of The Match - Gareth Jamison.

Training every Tuesday and Thursday starts at 7pm-8:30 and all new players are welcome.
