Larne RFC 1st XV are the only Qualifying League team to go through the 2014/15 season undefeated.

They completed this achievement on Saturday on their final league match of the season away to Ophir RFC.

With promotion confirmed it gave the opportunity to rest and rotate a few players which proved to have little impact to the squad. This alone speaks volumes on the strength of the 2nd XV and the position of the club for the future.

It did not take long for young Joe Johnston to be the first name on the score sheet, a well worked try after Thomas had caused havoc with the hosts defence.

Burns also did not take long to find his feet with a solo effort to score his first of the day. As the visitors looked to be finding cruise mode, the Ophir scrum half gave the Glynn men a reality check as he outpaced the covering Larne defence on the blind side after a well worked maul. Knowing that if they let Ophir score next they could find themselves in a bit of a dog fight, Larne had to get back on the score board quickly and that they did. Thomas got his hands on the ball again, like a man possessed there was sure to be no one stopping him on his way to the line, crashing over for a well deserved try.

Burns then again would step up to the mark to bag his second of the day and give Larne a comfortable margin going in to half time.

As the second half commenced, Reid and McReynolds carried ball into the heart of the opponents defence making great yards on nearly every occasion. This set up quick ball for McIlheron and McBride to get the pacey backs shifting out wide.

Agnew got his hands on the ball to evade a number of defenders and dot down in the corner. Skipper Crampsey opted to run the ball at every occasion as the stiff breeze was proving difficult to kick into. McReynolds then took his opportunity when a gap opened to head straight for the line for a well earned try.

A momentary lapse in concentration saw the Ophir side score two well worked tries which was to frustrate the Larne men on the pitch and at the side lines. With not long left Burns stepped up to the mark again with two long range efforts followed up by Hall bursting through a couple of tackles to score under the posts.

With McBride having landed five conversions and a penalty, the final score finished 17-58 to Larne to make it fourteen wins from fourteen in the league.

All eyes now fixed to Ravenhill!!!
