Larne Reach Final of Gordon West Cup!

Following last weeks victory at Limavady leaving Larne with a 100% league record & only 1 win away from promotion back to Qualifying League 2; Larne hosted Letterkenny in front of a big crowd at Glynn on Saturday in the Gordon west cup semi final.

Larne started the match determined to show they were intent in retaining their trophy & the visitors were hit by a bombardment in the opening quarter & by half time the game was all but over as a contest.

Ryan McAlister playing his best rugby for the club was to the fore scoring 3 tries from the back row.

Scott Montgomery who hadn't originally been selected but was drafted in after a late injury, added a brace whilst Jordan burns, Ryan Garrett, Phil Andrews, Steven McReynolds, Matt Agnew & the returning Craig Gibson all scored.

Amazingly every try was converted by Phil Andrews who has been invaluable with his accuracy off the tee this season...11 conversions, some from way out showed his ability.

The set piece was much more secure especially the line out where Craig Gibson was finding his jumpers really well & his return is a massive boost with 2 vital league games & a final to play.

Eddie hunter was as usual to the fore in the pack with Steven McReynolds also back to his barnstorming best having just returned after a long lay off.

There is real competition for places for the final run in & the club is fortunate to have much more depth than previous seasons which augers well for the future.

The 2nds are 5th having been promoted to junior 1 which is extremely competitive whilst the 3s will finish a brilliant 2nd to Malone in Minor 1.

With a rejuvenated youth section under Gary MacFarland's management & a really thriving mini section there is much optimism at the Glynn as the club looks to the future.
