It was not to be the fairytale ending to the Larne RFC 1st XV season with a somewhat disappointing display at Kingspan Stadium.

A beautiful day for players and spectators alike gave centre stage to Larne and Limavady in their fourth and final encounter of the season.

From the kick off it was clear the hunger the Roe Valley men had on the day and the pace which they started the game was unbelievable.

Within the first ten minutes Larne found themselves three scores down before they had even touched the ball. It was clear that the Larne men were in as much a state of shock than anything else at this stage and it took its toll on the remainder of the afternoon.

Andrews added a penalty to put Larne on the scoreboard but at this stage they were 17-3 down and really needed to score the next try, which unfortunately didn't happen. The limavady onslaught was endless and the last ditch attempts of Burns in defence were to little consolation as the whitewash was crossed for a fourth time.

The half time whistle couldn't come soon enough for the Larne men to try and regroup in some shape.

If there was to be any hope of a fight back they needed to score first and quick! Although pressuring the line off a few rolling mauls, The Glynn men could not get that final push over the line.

Limavady continued with the intensity and accuracy that they displayed in the first half and continued to build the scoreboard. Larne finally managed to get the breakthrough when Eddie Hunter barraged his way over the line seeing off a couple of defenders en route.

Unfortunately this would be Larne's final points of the day and would be of little consolation to the squad.

A very well deserved victory for Limavady who turned up all guns blazing on the day and put in a far superior performance than that of their opponents.

The Larne men can hold their heads high after what was a truly unbelievable season, gaining promotion in an undefeated league campaign.

There is some sterling young talent at the club which will only move the club forward in the coming years. Many thanks to the coaching and management team of Davy Wilson, Garth Kennedy, Bob Cameron, Stephen Marshall and Willy Gilpin.

There are many more behind the scenes who keep the club ticking over and without them we would not have the successful club we have.
